How the chart works
The traditional chart is organized by the mother's lunar age at conception and the lunar month of conception. Lunar age adds roughly one year to your Western age, because Chinese tradition counts the year in the womb as age one.
The chart is often described online as having Qing-era or tomb-related origins, but those origin stories are difficult to verify. Studies that checked it against real birth outcomes put its accuracy at about 50%, i.e. no better than a coin flip. It's a fun tool, not a diagnostic.

Does the chart work for IVF pregnancies?
The chart uses the conception date, so IVF works the same way. The known fertilization date from the embryo transfer gives you a more exact conception month than in a natural cycle. That does not make the chart more accurate, the method itself still performs no better than a coin flip.
